Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is the bad guy in almost every scenario, specifically in her tenure as governor of Michigan. Some of us that cared to report on it – like me, here – shared as early as last May that Gov. Whitmer was as guilty as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for sending infected patients into nursing homes. It was a decision that proved deadly to the seniors living in close quarters but only recently became an issue for mainstream media to cover.
I have a theory as to why these players – Newsom, Cuomo, Whitmer – are being taken out right now, but I’ll get to that later. First, Gov. Whitmer is finding that her chickens are home to roost. The Detroit News reported that Whitmer’s administration members – who suddenly resigned – received secret payouts of taxpayer money.
“Steve Gray, the former director of the state Unemployment Insurance Agency, and Sarah Esty, who served as a deputy director while Robert Gordon led the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, reached separation deals with the state in addition to a pact with Gordon,” reported the Detroit News.
Robert Gordon’s deal – which reportedly paid him $155,506 – required both sides to maintain confidentiality surrounding him leaving his post. Michigan Republicans are calling the payouts – that totaled over $250,000 –”hush money.”

In a live Q&A, Democrat state Rep. Laurie Pohutsky was asked: “What on earth is going on around the governor paying people when they quit or ‘quit’.” Rep. Pohutsky snarked that “it’s concerning, to say the least,” saying that she’s “not going to sugar coat it.” Pohutsky says she’s “not a lawyer” and “tries to get facts about things” before she’ll “take a real serious stance” on an issue.
Pohutsky comments that it’s “concerning” that with one of the large payouts, it’s pretty clear that it’s a payout of a contract with nine months of guaranteed pay left on it. She claims to understand the reality of having to pay that regardless. However, the “concerning” payout doesn’t have a clear indication of why the taxpayer would be forced to pay him or why there would be a gag order on both sides.
Pohutsky “assumes that this will be discussed in the [Michigan] Oversight Committee this term.” She says that she is “not in the business of sugar-coating things or defending things that [she doesn’t] find defensible,” and she “looks forward to getting some answers too.”
A Michigan prosecutor told Gov. Whitmer that she could face charges after an investigation into her decision to send infected patients into senior living homes. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido told 7 Action News, “If we find there’s been willful neglect of office if we find there’s been reckless endangerment of a person’s life by bringing them in, then we would move forward with charges against the Governor. Of course, we would. Nobody’s above the law in this state.”
Lucido says he started looking into the nursing home abuses last year. “Why did my mom or why did my dad, brother, sister, or aunt die? Was it because of the policy by bringing in COVID-infected patients that spread to my mom that killed my mother?” Lucido told the station that he “didn’t receive a very warm welcome” from the Michigan Attorney General’s office.
Now, as promised above, here is my theory as to why the left all of a sudden cares about the deaths of seniors in nursing homes. Biden is never going to survive being president the next four years. I don’t even see him finishing out a full year. Democrats need a game plan for 2024.
They want Kamala Harris – and normally, they would get what they want – but this time, the people aren’t behind her. The Democrats built the national profile of Gov. Whitmer and Gov. Cuomo and spread the narrative that they were the epitome of leadership. Kamala Harris could never compete against these two, and now the Democrats need to take them out.
