Once again, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Biden’s top medical advisor, is moving the goalposts on masks, and not in a good way, as Reuters reports:
“Fauci, Biden’s top medical adviser, told CNN that the approaching deaths tally was “a terribly historic milestone in the history of this country.”
Asked if Americans should expect to still be wearing masks into next year, Fauci said: “I think it is possible that that’s the case,” adding that it depended on the level of the virus in communities and potential virus variants.
“Obviously, I think we are going to have a significant degree of normality beyond the terrible burden that all of us have been through over the last year,” Fauci said.
In an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Fauci said it was too soon to pinpoint when the United States might reach herd immunity.

“We want to get that baseline really, really, really low before we start thinking that we’re out of the woods.”
He told “Fox News Sunday” that whether people in the United States will later need a booster shot depends on the path the South African variant takes.
While the currently available vaccines appear protective against the UK variant that has appeared across the country, they are less protective against the South African one, which so far is not dominant, he said.
“If in fact this becomes more dominant, we may have to get a version of the vaccine that is directed specifically against the South African isolate,” Fauci told Fox, saying studies were already underway.”

Even worse, later in the interview Fauci moved the goalposts even further claiming the level of infection has to be near zero before things can go back to normal:
“You know, because it depends on the level of dynamics of virus that’s in the community, and that’s really important because that gets back to something, again, you said. If you see the level coming down really, really very low, I want it to keep going down to a baseline that’s so low there is virtually no threat.”
“It will never be zero but a minimal, minimal threat you will be exposed to someone who is infected. So if you combine getting most of the people in the country vaccinated with getting the level of virus in the community very, very low, then I believe you’re going to be able to say, you know, for the most part, we don’t necessarily have to wear masks but if we have a level of virus that is at that level that it was months and months ago like 20,000 per day is a heck of a lot better than it been.”
“That’s still very high level of virus in the community. I want to see it go way down, when it goes way down and the overwhelming majority of the people in the population are vaccinated, then I would feel comfortable saying we need to pull back on the masks. We don’t need to have masks.”
It appears that the Democrats and their media allies plan to keep the American people in semi-permanent lockdown until such time as we refuse to comply any longer.
