California Gov. Gavin Newsom mostly remained silent in the early stages of an attempt to gather the required number of signatures to launch a recall effort.
However, now that the recall effort is already being touted as a massive success, given that the group behind has managed to gather roughly two million signatures — which is about 500,000 more than it actually needs — the governor is finally acknowledging that he might be in a bit of trouble.
According to the Washington Examiner, Newsom went as far as having his campaign release a statement that not only clearly revealed that he’s concerned but added a call-to-action for his supporters — however many of those there are — to donate money to his campaign to fight back against the efforts to boot him out of office.
“I won’t be distracted by this partisan, Republican recall — but I will fight it,” Newsom tweeted on Monday. “There is too much at stake. Getting Californians vaccinated, our economy safely reopened, and our kids back in school are simply too important to risk.”

The most hilarious part of that statement is his pledge to reopen the state’s economy, which was something he closed, which killed thousands of businesses, jobs and livelihoods because it was politically trendy to go overboard on harsh lockdowns than it was to follow the actual science and approach the situation like, say, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida — a state that has been running like a well-oiled machine even through the pandemic.
Also notable is his claim that the recall push is a “partisan, Republican recall.” Data says that the largest donations toward his recall campaign stemmed from some of the most liberal areas of the country, including Los Angeles, Irvine, and San Francisco.
Simply put, the efforts to kick this failing governor out of office greatly transcends political ideologies. I’m confident in predicting that out of those two million signatures, a large number of them will be Democrats and independents who simply want a governor who knows how to govern.

From mismanagement of the wildfire situation, the state’s power grid, the state’s budget and the mishandling of the lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s crystal clear that Californians desperately seek new leadership.
With the sheer number of people behind the effort and the horsepower of the mega-donors making sure the recall campaign has everything it needs, I don’t think it’s a stretch at this point to presume that Newsom’s days as the governor of California are numbered.
